My experience collaborating with some kick arse business women in Melbourne’s inner west just blew my mind. I stopped listening to the negative self talk and got out of my comfort zone. For the most part of this year I’ve been delving into what makes me tick and in particular how my fears have been navigating my life. So without going into too much detail, I soon realised that the only ‘thing’ that was stopping me from achieving my goals was ME!
After a few disaster networking events that really played on my irrational fears in the past, I was ready to give it another shot. As I already knew Chrissie from Inner West Mamas Hub, I felt their event was the one to break the ice. Of course I had nothing to worry about. If the event was anything like Chrissie, we’d all be having a ball, and sure enough it delivered.
After stalking (ah hem – in a non creepy way) Stina from Scandi Heart I approached her to collaborate on a shoot, one thing lead to another and boom shakalaka, we created something beautiful together. The Maternity Lifestyle Edit.
So with Scandi Heart’s gorgeous gotland sheepskins featuring and now Majvillan Australia’s wallpaper, posters and textiles on board we needed a model.
I met Jessica late 2018 at an event I was photographing and we stayed in touch. She was also 30 weeks pregnant, so it was the perfect match. She also got in touch with a myriad of maternity brands from the likes of: The Stork Nest, Shnuggle, Oricom Australia, Tommee Tippee, Pea In A Pod, Preggo Leggings, You Lingerie, Holster Fashion, Bobbi Brown Australia, Jane Iredale Australia, Edible Beauty and Vani-T. We even had a super sweet delivery from The Cupcake Queens.
Our location
The scene for our epic shoot was Sabina’s gorgeously renovated period home located in Williamstown. Her styling prowess also known as Style Luxe for Less had her creating picture perfect sets throughout her home for us to shoot in.
With over 30 setups planned we knew we had our work cut out for us. As a team we carefully curated every scene. Sabina and Stina working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything was looking at its best. We even snuck in some branding images for both Majvillan Australia and Scandi Heart.
The biggest take aways from my experience was?
Going with my gut is the best decision I ever made, even if it meant stepping out of my comfort zone. Also getting clear on my business vision. Knowing what I wanted out of the collaboration and teaming up with women in biz, who were a great fit to make my vision a reality. Clear communication all the way made my job so painless and easy. It actually didn’t feel like a job at all. Lastly this would not have been possible without the dream team collaborators. You guys rocked my world, and there’s nothing more I love than supporting local women in biz!!!
So I’m putting it out there. Do you own a womens or kids fashion label? Or in a holistic / health business space? I’d love to hear from you
You pulled this whole thing together, and it was really incredible what we got done in such a short period of time!
